RE: Cycle Pre-production Thesis

Year:

2024

For my thesis I chose to make concept art for an original RPG pixel video game that explores the looping cycle of time and confronting the parts of yourself you wish to hide. The idea for this concept comes from video game over screens that give you the option to try again and the paradox of another you existing simultaneously. The game follows a classic narrative about a hero destined to save the world from an evil force, however I wanted a different approach where the protagonist, Lupat, is told she is the prophesied hero and instead of jumping at the opportunity for an adventure, she wants nothing to do with the prophecy. She only goes along with her destined mission when her hand is forced and on her journey her strength grows to a frightening degree to match the power level of the enemy she was born to face. What she wasn’t expecting was to come face to face with her alternate self who became mad with power; Tulpa. The true meaning of the prophecy is that Tulpa is forever existent and will always be the final product of the destined vessel, no matter how many timelines a vessel is born into they will always end up as Tulpa and repeat the cycle.
